  • History of Thunder Mountain
In the early 2000's Badco Disc Golf Club was asked to do a Disc Golf demo for a local Motorcycle club. The Iron Pony Express is a sponser of the Rocky Mountain Village Easter Seals of Colorado, Empire Colorado. So we went to Greeley Colorado for the Iron Pony Express motorcycle Rally. A week later we were asked to come out to the camp in Empire to meet with the Camp director about a possible disc golf course. The Rocy Mountain Village is located at exit 232, I- 70 and us 40 the Winter Park exit, South side of I-70. It is 180 acres nesteled up against the mountain. The camp is a retreat for variety of group the main group being physically challenged kids. The camp has the normal things like biking, hiking fishing, tennis, basketball, softball and hores back riding. it's also a summer camp for kids from all over the state. We were asked to design and construct a disc golf course, which we jump at the chance. we spent the first year clearing out trees to make a fairway you can ask Mike Webeter about that. Our first targets were made of 4x4 post which Jeff and Tim Panis help to construct. The second year we held the Worlds Biggest. We borrowed temporary basket from the Wrighlife. At this time the Applewood course was closed and I bought the baskets and put them on the course. We made up chainz pole for the rest of the course and started having tournament to raise money for more baskets. Several years went by and we had baskets on 27 hole and 1 practice basket. From 2005 to 2008 the course was rockin. I mean great disc golf, live bands, food, drink, lodging and camping. It was a great place to play disc golf and enjoy the outdoors. We raised money for the camp and all was good. In order to play the course all you had to do was go to the main lodge sign in and give a small donation and play the best disc golf you could imagine. The rules were simple, No smoking, no alcohol on the course, pack in your trash and pack it out, the normal stuff. Two restrooms were provide with running water (can't get that at a public park).

  • 6th Annual Denver Classic
Badco Disc Golf Club is celebrating the tenth anniversaty of the Badlands Disc Golf Course at 90th and Camenisch Way, Hyland Hills Park and Reacreation District, Federal heights Colorado. It was Designed and installed in 1999 and has grown from a 18 hole disc golf course to a now 27 hole disc golf course. We will be celebrating by sponsoring the 6th Annual Denver Classic Disc Golf Tournament at this premier tournament course. The course has under gone many changes durning it's history and is known as one of the areas finist courses. In 1999 the young Badco Disc Golf Club wanted to design a course that would stand up to the test of time. We seeked out some of the area best know disc golf enthusiasts, like Bill Wright and Scott Holter to help us with the original 18 hole lay out. The course is now 27 holes with 88 multiple pin locations which are moved every two months to show the versatility of this challinging course. When you think you have the lay out down it's changed to a different pin location which frustrates some, but invigerates others. With it's rolling hills, elevated tees, multipule trees and water hazards it tends to make you a smarter and better disc golfer, which was the designers purpose to start with. Besides the Denver Classic the Badlands Disc Golf Course host, Badlands Random Draw Doubles every Saturday at noon for the last 10 years. This event which in the past was run by Jason Rosenbaum has helped to pay for 6 of the original 18 baskets provided by the Wright Life in Ft Collins. We also host the Denver Tags another event which helps to pay for the course. Badco Disc Golf Club is a nonprofit organization Whos key goal is the expantion of of the sport of disc golf. We want to expand the sport not by the growth of our club, but by helping to increase the number of courses in the meto area and increasing the number of people who play disc golf. We say it dosn't matter what age you are we cater to people from 8 to 88. So when ever you participate in a Badco event or play at a Badco course you are helping to support the growth of disc golf and you local disc golf course so thank you all and check us out at Badcodisc.com.
