- Overton, Pernice tied at Congressional, Kim surging
Jeff Overton continued his one-week turnaround Friday with a 5-under 65, giving him a share of the 36-hole lead with Tom Pernice Jr. in the AT&T National before storms rained on the Congressional and interrupted the second round.
Anthony Kim, living up to his billing as the next young threat in golf, was two shots behind with four holes remaining.
Consider how quickly Overton's prospects have changed.
He hasn't finished in the top 20 all year.
- Howell, Love among first tested for anti-doping
In the 237 times Charles Howell III has teed it up on the PGA Tour, he never had a round end like Thursday at the AT&T National. After signing for an even-par 70, he was handed a pink slip.
Howell was among the first players chosen for testing under the tour's Anti-Doping Program that went into effect this week.
He left the scoring area at about 5:45 p.m., and came back out to the putting green 40 minutes later. He was given a pink piece of paper showing that his sample was valid.
- Kang leads, but Lewis starts strong after rain delay
Stacy Lewis picked up where she left off 10 months ago.
So did Mother Nature.
Lewis birdied three of her first four holes Friday, then held on for a 3-under 69 at the LPGA Tour's NW Arkansas Championship. Rain again caused problems at the event, which was called off after 18 holes last September with Lewis leading.
Lewis couldn't continue her early run, but the former University of Arkansas star was just a stroke behind clubhouse leader Soo-Yun Kang late in the afternoon.
- Fisher takes lead at European Open
Ross Fisher birdied his last hole for a 4-under 68 that gave him a one-shot lead over Graeme McDowell after the second round of the European Open on Friday.
McDowell earlier completed a 67 on the London Club course for a 12-under 132 total. Sergio Garcia was three strokes further back following a 64, the day's best round.
Soren Hansen was fourth at 8 under after a 67, and the six players at 7 under included Colin Montgomerie (67), Ian Poulter (67) and Paul McGinley (68).
- Ozaki shoots lowest score in 3 years to take lead
Joe Ozaki of Japan shot a 9-under 63 on Friday, his lowest score in three years on the Champions Tour, to gain a two-shot lead over Argentina's Eduardo Romero.
Joey Sindelar, Ronnie Black, and Fulton Allem were tied for third at 66, while John Harris, Des Smyth, Bobby Wadkins, and Morris Hatalsky were another shot back.
Bernhard Langer, second on the Champions Tour in earnings and playing the En-Joie Golf Club course for the first time, shot a 73.

- PGA Tour begins drug testing era
Golf enters the modern age of sports with a short walk through history.
The hallway in the clubhouse at Congressional winds past photos of presidents who belonged to the club, newspaper clippings of Ken Venturi's courageous victory in the 1964 U.S. Open, magazine articles of Fred Couples and Ken Venturi winning their first PGA Tour events.
It leads to an elevator, which takes players to the third floor to be tested for drugs.
"It's taken 150 years to test us for drugs," Robert Allenby said.
- European Tour's new drug policy in effect
The European Tour's new drug testing policy goes into effect this week, though it was uncertain when golfers would start to be asked for samples.
Tour officials will not say if any tests will be conducting during this week's European Open, as the players are not meant to be told ahead of time.
"We are going to start slowly," said David Garland, the Tour's director of operations who who is in charge of setting up the program. "We will build up.
- Woods on crutches, recovering from knee surgery
Tiger Woods does not know when he can play golf again, but he said Monday his rebuilt left knee has been sore his entire PGA Tour career and he looks forward to playing on two good legs.
"My left knee has been sore for 10 to 12 years," Woods said during a conference call for his AT&T National tournament, his first public comments since reconstructive surgery last Tuesday. "It will be nice to finally have a healthy leg.
